Tickets and Passes:
Musuem tickets: Bypass the lines and save money. CityPass allows
you to reserve tickets for seven famous New York City attractions at
one low price. The following attractions
are included in the CityPass: American Museum of Natural History,
Empire State Building Observatory, The Guggenheim Museum,
Intrepid Sea Air Space Museum, The Museum of Modern Art, Circle
Line Harbor Cruise and the SkyRide at the Empire State
Building. (Note: From the CityPass website, "MoMA has moved to
Queens while MoMA Manhattan completes a 3 year renovation. CityPass includes
admission
to
MoMA in Queens.
The
renovated and expanded MoMA opens in winter 2004-2005.") If you are visiting
3 or more of the attractions listed above, the CityPass is a money-saver
(and a time-saver, as you will be able to avoid the ticket purchase lines
and go directly to the admittance gates for the attraction.) Our itinerary
includes five of the attractions, so we will be purchasing CityPasses.
$48.00 adults
$34.00 youth (ages 6-17)
Subway and bus passes: MetroCards allow you to
ride all you want for one price. Options include the 7-Day
Unlimited, 30-Day Unlimited, and 1-Day Fun Pass. Alternatively, with
a Pay-Per-Ride MetroCard,
buy
the number
of rides you want, and get a free ride every time you buy 10 rides
at once. Metrocards are available in subway stations from the token clerk
or the vending machines now installed in many stations. They are also
available at participating MetroCard vendors in the five boroughs,
Westchester, Long Island, and New Jersey (see list on the MTA's
web site). Our itinerary includes four days in New York City requiring
at least 3 trips per day on the subway or buses. [decision

Theater tickets: The TKTS Ticket Booth in
Times Square provides half price tickets for some shows.

17 at South Street Seaport. Hours are Mon-Sat 11am-6pm; Sun 11am-3:30pm.

at the southeast corner of the Resnick-Prudential Building (199
Water Street). Hours are Mon-Sat 11am-6pm; Sun 11am-3:30pm. Matinee

We've decided to reserve seats in advance for Les Miserables. Therefore
we will not be "experiencing" the TKTS booths. However, we have also
printed information about the Phantom of the Opera in case we especially
enjoy
Broadway and have some extra time to spare in the last day or so of the
trip. (We purposely keep the last day light and/or include the least
compelling attractions of the trip on that last day. This allows for
a quick change
of plans to accommodate our favorites.) A last-minute Phantom of the
Opera decision might require our leaning on the information about TKTS
booths.

Our "Points for Points-of-Interest"
Project:
When travelling with children, we're competing with the fast pace of
t.v., video games, and daily sports. Some of the attractions are naturally
high-interest. But what about the time between high-interest attractions?
To spice up the trip, we've made booklets containing pictures of notable
points-of-interest. The kids get a point for each point-of-interest they
find. The points get "cashed in" for souvenir money. See
our "points-of-interest".
Print them out to make your own booklets!
